Antonio Franchi called / detto il Lucchese
(Villa Basilica/Lucca 1634 – 1709 Florence) Delilah holding a pair of scissors and a strand of Samson’s hair in heir hands, oil on canvas, 65 x 48.5 cm, framed
Certificate: Prof. Sestieri points out the unusual fact that Samson’s head is missing here. This may be accounted for the painting’s depicting a real person, probably the Marchesa Lucrezia Rinucci Corsini. Franchi was famous for his female portraits and wedding scenes. Outside of Florence and apart from the Medici family, Antonio Franchi also worked for such noble patrons as the Corsini, Rinucci, Capponi, Adimari, and Strozzi.
